One year, one country, one University…

I spent the last two semesters of this year at the Károli Gáspár Reformed University in Budapest with the Erasmus+ programme. My motivation to participate in the programme was to meet new people, experience being in a big city, observe new perspectives and viewpoints and belong to a new community. In addition, as a student of Reformed theology, I felt it was important to get to know new congregations and pastors.

University life in Budapest is wonderful. As I spent a whole year here, I had the opportunity to go to the theatres, go to concerts, walk around Margaret Island, go to the Christmas market, go to the cinema or to museums.

I was welcomed at the faculty from the moment I arrived, everyone was very helpful and friendly. And the new Raday House was an amazingly good dormitory. It was a pleasure to live there. Breakfast on the terrace, a huge kitchen, a private terrace and a gym… Also, you can’t miss the facilities on Ráday Street. There was always a lot of life going on there, restaurants, theatres, cafés and pastry shops…

I was not disappointed with the training. The level of education is very high. I also tried to choose the subjects in a way that I would be able to absorb them. I must also mention that some of the teachers were not strangers to me, as many of them come to teach in our faculty. I also really liked my new classmates, it was nice to get to know them and almost from the first moment I felt as if I had been in the same class with them.

Besides the experiences, it was also important during the mobility to build relationships with several future pastors. It is even easier to strive for cross-border Reformed unity if important relationships are already established during the university years.

I can only recommend the programme to everyone, because it’s an unmissable opportunity to develop and learn a lot during your training.
